An introductory fishing program for youth and their families, as well as adults. Lessons are held at our visitor centre fishing ponds and at lakes in municipal and provincial parks throughout the province. All equipment is provided and every session includes hands on fishing time.

In this 3 hour session you’ll learn the basics of freshwater fishing including: hatchery roles, fish identification, tackle, rod rigging, casting, and hands-on fishing at our onsite ponds. Included is a tour of our Visitor Centre which has live fish displays and informative exhibits!

Learn to Fish: Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery, Abbotsford
Directions: Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery & Visitor Centre Located at 34345 Vye Rd, Abbotsford BC Please park in the Visitor Centre Parking Lot as shown on the map- there are 2 metal gates that will be open. Please do not park in the staff lot (entrance with large chainlink fence gate). Once in the Visitor Centre parking lot, head up the ramp and into the Visitor Centre building where a staff member will greet you!

Learn to Fish: No. 2 Road Fishing Pier, Richmond
Join the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC and the Richmond Library for this 2-hour session where you will learn about hatchery roles, fish identification, proper fish handling, tackle, rod rigging and casting, followed by hands on fishing at the River!
What you need to know before attending:
- Tidal licenses must be purchased for all ages prior to the event.
- Children must be accompanied by and adult.
- Rods and tackle are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own equipment.
- Personal Flotation Devices (PFD) are not required and will not be provided. Please bring your own for the program if you would like to have one.
- We will be meeting on-site at No. 2 Road Fishing Pier in London Wharf Park (AKA: London’s Landing). Please look for the blue tent set up on the grass (location shown on map).
- Please dress appropriately for the weather- this program will occur rain or shine!
Getting to No. 2 Road Fishing Pier:
- There is a small gravel parking lot next to the pier, and there is street parking at various locations along Dyke Road.
- Most of the walking paths to the pier are gravel.
- The 402 bus route will take you to the nearest bus stop at Moncton and No. 2 Rd., a 15-minute walk from the pier.
