  • Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC Announces 2013 Scholarship Recipients

    FFSBC awards up to three scholarships annually, each with a value of up to $2,000. This year’s winners will each receive the full award. Scholarships are available to students enrolled in fish culture or fisheries management programs within a recognized post-secondary education institution in British Columbia.

    From June 14 to 16, fishing without a license is not only legal, it’s encouraged – thanks to BC’s 14th Annual Family Fishing Weekend. The province-wide event, presented by The Family Fishing Society of BC and hosted by volunteer led community groups, is part of an ongoing effort to get more people hooked on fishing and appreciative of our tremendous aquatic and marine resources.

  • Economic Benefits of Freshwater Fishing Growing Across British Columbia

    Freshwater fishing’s economic impact has grown to over $500 million dollars a year in direct spending, and this economic activity is spread across all regions of the province. Participation in freshwater fishing is also growing and predictions are the trend will continue, according to the results of the just-released 2013 BC Freshwater Sport Fishing Economic Impact Report. The report also highlighted potential for future growth - and showed that reinvestment of fishing licence revenues in B.C.’s stocking, conservation and angler outreach programs is yielding increasing economic returns.

    The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (FFSBC) is again recruiting experienced anglers to reveal the pleasures of freshwater fishing to friends, family and colleagues during the third annual Fishing Buddies Sweepstakes. Designed to introduce new anglers to sport fishing, Fishing Buddies also rewards anglers for doing what they love and sharing their fishing knowledge. Participation has grown consistently since the program launched in 2010 and significant growth in participation is expected for the third year.
